PC Rebuild
|
When a PC has been used for a long period of time and many programs have been loaded and then unloaded the performance can suffer. There are programs that remove old registry entries and others that defragment the hard drive however when the system becomes unstable a rebuild is the best option. So what factors should you consider before destroying the PC? 1) backup - this may seem obvious but has to be stated, a backup will secure your data and those files that become essential once you have wiped the disk. 2) Use a new disk drive. If you have to wipe the disk then why not change the disk? you can keep the old one to restore files from it and this can be a life saver! 3) Your Operating system is vulnerable when you first load it. Disconnect the system from your network/router while you are loading the operating system. Have your anti-virus program ready and if you can have the latest downloads available. Configure the firewall before connecting to the internet. 4) Your email program may store the mailbox on the PC, if you can transfer it to a CD/DVD/Memory stick so you can recover the data quickly. Similarly with any other datafiles you will need. 5) Store all your CD's and DVD's with the programs you need in a single place. Dont forget you will need the install codes. If you have downloaded programs from the internet then why not store the codes in readme files alongside the install program and copy them off to CD/DVD. 6) PC's often come with install CD/DVD's with the complete PC on them. It is possible to create similar DVD's once you have completed your install to speed up the process at a later date. If you need help rebuilding your PC why not call us!
